Ready for competition   Leave a comment

I'm off tomorrow to Slovenia, for the Cerkno Cup. This is my third trip to Slovenia, after the Lipica Open in 2003 and the Orienteering Online Cup in 2004 (before it became too big). From experience, the terrain there is fantastic, easily good enough for World Championships, and great fun. We're going for a 3-day training camp before the event, and then 3 days of competition, and the latest count is 17 Israelis at the event – almost a record for participation in a competition abroad, not counting organised groups of juniors.
My training since I decided to travel (8 weeks ago) went exactly according to plan, and I feel fit and ready, even though my running speed is 4-5% slower than last season. Maybe age has something to do with it. There aren't many competitors in my category (M35), and I'm hoping for a podium place, but I don't know any of my rivals so it might be just wishful thinking. In any case I'll be happy to keep up my consistent form abroad from the last few years and put in three good races with few mistakes.
There's supposed to be wireless internet at the hotel, and my computer is coming as well, so I'll keep the blog posted.
