Galilee O-Club   Leave a comment

This week we had a general assembly of our club – Galilee O-Club. I founded the club in 1992, and within a few years we were the largest club in Israel, reaching a peak of nearly 150 members. We won the club championships for 11 straight years (1994-2004), but dropped down to third last season. The largest club in Israel today is Modi'in, with over 200 members; Ramat Hasharon, Technion and ourselves have over 100, and there are 7 smaller clubs.
The general assembly is necessary for legal purposes, and only 13 members were present. Our "council" was re-elected, the financial report approved, and we discussed our plans for the coming season. We're not worried about the club ranking, but more about the amount of orienteering activities we can organise and how to attract (and keep) more people in our area.
The total annual budget is around 40,000 NIS (8,000 Euros) – most of it comes from organising events, and some from the national lottery. It's not a large sum, but as everything we do is voluntary, there is no real lack of funds, and we keep looking for ways to invest the money cleverly in orienteering. Last year half the budget was spent on our new orienteering kit (pictured below).

We got some new ideas this week – let's see if we can bring them to fruition. If even half are successful, it will be a step forward.
