The Dancing Orienteer   Leave a comment

Nearly all of us are amateurs in orienteering, and most of our time is devoted to other pursuits. Assaf Avner (ranked 1st in H17) dances in the regional dance group.
Our town (Carmiel) is now closed down for three days for the annual dance festival. The traffic is so bad that I'm riding Roni's bike to work, even though it's a really tough uphill slog back home. And yesterday we went to the opening show.
There we were, six orienteers sitting on the grass about 100m from the stage (there were thousands of people there), obsessed about seeing Assaf dancing. We know him really well, so we can recognize him from that distance, but we also had my binoculars – which turned out to be really good, and were in constant use – and Eyal Baruch's high-powered camera. The show was great, and Assaf dances really well – I hope he can continue both dancing and orienteering for a long time.
